I have a GA-6VXE+ motherboard running W98SE and a 466Mhz Celeron doing the sums. 3 banks of 256mb Ram and a nearly full HD which I will replace soon. Can the Celeron be upgraded to something a bit faster and, if so, to what and how is it done??

Slot 1 supports Pentium II / !!! / Celeron processor running at 233-800 MHz.
RTFM.

If your motherboard can accept the faster speeds you might consider these for an inexpensive upgrade:

An issue will be the attached fan and whether it can be removed. I've had to use a drill to remove the fasteners from a Dell pull so as to use a 'standard' heatsink and fan. Some computers will need their own style heatsink/fan arrangement.
The biggest difference between the Celeron and Pentium III is the amount of L2 Cache on the module, usually double or quadruple on the PIII over the Celeron's 128KB.

What I found at one site on the 'net shows 650MHz as the fastest the board can handle.

I)
but it does require Adobe Reader.
The manual, on page 1-1 [Adobe Reader page 29 of 80], shows 800MHz.
