Hello, I recenently bought a computer from my mothers office. When I started it up it asked me to log on. The log in Name comes up A New User, but I do not have a password for it. I know older versions would let you press cancel and the computer would finish booting up, but I do not have the option to cancel. I have tried to boot in safe mode thinking i could bypass it and then set up my user name but it also asks me to log in. How can I get passed this to boot up the rest of the computer and then change the profiles?

A feature of WinNT 4, Win2000 and WinXP is the required log-in, at least once. Once logged in there are changes that can be made.
Not having the password [can your mother get it?] you will need to re-install Win2000 clean.
Clicking Cancel on Win95, Win98 and WinME did allow the startup but there is no worthwhile security on those Operating Systems.
