Hi I have just downloaded tightvnc and I am using windows Xp at work and windows xp at home. I ran the server from my home computer so I could access my home computer from work. When I tried to connect it failed to connect. I tried the IP address of my home computer that the little icon shows when i wave my cursor over it and also an IP address that I get when i connect to the internet. Both computers are on ADSL and have permanent connections to the net. I am just wondering what i am doing wrong. I'm sure I must be missing a setting or something somewhere. Any help will be greatly appreciated thank you

You have to put a hole in the XP firewall of the target and viewing machine for vnc, as well as the firewall for any router you have on the target machine. Also, if you do have a router, you will have to forward the port that you assigned vnc to use through the router and to the target machine on your LAN.
When my system was running this was the proceedure:
Install VNC. Set VNC to use port 10753 (my street address). Put a hole in the XP firewall for port 10753. Get into the router and set it to forward port 10753 from the WAN to 10.12.12.101 (the LAN address of the computer I wanted to view).
Then when I was away from home I put a hole in my laptop's XP firewall for port 10753. Then when I ran tight vnc I told it to connect to 207.69.xx.xx::10753. At this point it would ask me for a password.
