Would you mind to be a bit more explicit on this question, since Win95 J have never needed to double click an item in the Start Menu.

Double clicking is only needed when starting an .EXE from a Windows Explorer directory listing.

To modify: choose "Folder Options" from Tools or View menu. On the General tab you have the option to switch to single click to open any file, for applications this means a single click to launch.

i am administrator in a college, i am using foolproof, try to block windows explorer, however double click on start meun could open a folder going to foolproof dir and easily delete it or rename it. this is the reason i need to disable double click on start meun. and i sure know win95 does not have this function

You may have mentioned it from the beginning that you are using FoolProof Securtity by SmartStuff Software.
J believe this third party software is modifying the regular behaviour of the Start Menu in a way that is not plain common Windows.
J suggest you redirect your question to your support departement of the vendor.
