Hi

Im looking if anyone can help me with a problem. We have been running a +- 20pc workgroup network (all running XP) with a linux fileserver. We want up go to win 2003 server. Obviously the profiles for all the users are on each individuals PC. What would be the easiest way to get all the user profiles (desktops, shortcuts, Mydocs etc.) from each individuals PC over to the 2003 domain server so when the user logs onto the domain all there settings are there.

Ps Where would robocopy work (is that for copying user profiles from one domain controller to another)

Thanks for your help

Your users right now are local users, when you setup their new user in the domain, it will be a domain user. Windows has a Migration Wizard you can use to migrate your local users to be domain users.

Once you do that, you can go into each individual user and set a profile path on the server. Once the user logs in, it will automatically copy the profile to the server.

Thanks for the reply

Just a few more things: What is the migration wizard called and where can it be found.

Thanks

I dont know, because I never used it....

I just went into System/advanced/UserProfiles/Settings and copied the profiles to the server and used that profile with the new user...

That works, but some applications get screwed up because they still have the wrong local profile directories: "user1" rather than "user1.domain1" in the HKCU.
