Hi,
I find you are an expert in solving registry problems.
I have a Dell laptop running Windows98FE and IE5.5.
I found this article (scandisk.reg)
http://www.winmag.com/fixes/defrag.htm (http://www.winmag.com/fixes/scandisk.htm>http://www.winmag.com/fixes/scandisk.htm</a>)

On bootup, scandisk runs but stops at the end of C Drive with a summary. I have to click "Close" for it to keep running to scan D Drive. And when both partitions have been scanned, instead of it moving on to defrag, it halts again displaying a summary until I hit the close button. Again I have to click on the close button so that the defrag.reg runs.
According to the scandisk article, by adding the "N" parameter both scandisk and defrag should run without me keeping an eye on the screen.

BTW For each partition I have gone into Tools/Error checking status/Advanced and removed the check mark next to display summary and set it to never. Most of the time this setting doesn't hold from one scandisk to the next.

Any ideas?

Thanks loads and much happiness and prosperity for the coming year.

Barbara,

The other regulars are just as capable as me for solving registry problems, so I hope they add to it too.

That's the first I've seen that particular one. I have another that may work:
CLEAN DEFRAG:

To defragment all your hard drives/partitions with no overhead (background programs running or TSRs/VXDs loaded), change to the \Tools\Mtsutil folder on your Win98 Setup cd-rom, and right-click on Defrag.inf. Select Install.

This will create a one-time entry (DEFRAG.EXE /ALL) under this Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServicesOnce

Defrag will start automatically next time you boot, before the login prompt, therefore before any other program loads.

I checked both files from Winmag, can't understand what the lines are in front of the commands.

Maybe by using the RunServicesOnce key is the proper way to do it. I'll try to modify and run the scandisk option also and see what the results are. I'll get back to you tommorrow.
