Can you get into the BIOS utility? If so, F9 will reset everything back to default.
If you have to do it the hard way...
You have to remove every possible source of power. The main system battery, any auxiliary batteries, the AC power, and the CMOS battery.
Even when you have pulled everything sometimes there is still some energy stored in the system...maybe some big caps still have a charge on them that is getting fed to the CMOS. When this is the case you can do two things to dissipate the charge. When all the power sources are removed, short the CMOS battery contacts or pins together with a screwdriver for a few seconds. Then hit the system power button to attempt a power up. Occasionally you will see a fan kick a rev or two or some LEDs flash as the residual charge dumps into the system to try to start it up. This will consume the left over energy in the system.
Usually these steps will get most all systems. But I have run into a stubborn system or two that even these things didn't work. The only solution then is to remove all the power, do the procedures above, and then let the system sit for a day or two so the energy hiding in there can be consumed or dissipate.
And be patient... If you try too power up to soon and it hasn't worked yet then you have to start over again - a real frustration when you have been staring at a dead laptop for a full day already.
