View Full Version : Using Remote Desktop MMC (*.msc) (WXP-Pro)

I have a MMC that I created from XP Pro SP1 (v.2002). The only enabled snap-in is Remote Desktop.

I sent the *.msc file to a friend that is running XP Pro SP2 (v.2002). The MMC will not work on the other machine, and it gets an error saying "Snap in failed to initialize". The Remote Computer snap-in is not an option on this machine.

Remote Desktop works on both machines.

What needs to be enabled/tweaked to allow an MMC to connect to remote desktops from XP Pro SP2?

Hi

Sounds like you have the Administrative Tools (adminpak.msi) installed on your computer and your friend does not.

You have created a custom mmc and added tsmmc.mmc. When your friend tested Remote Desktop it sounds like they used mstsc.exe which is not the same as the snap-in you used. This should explain the error message.

To resolve this issue you should ask your friend to install adminpak.msi.

Hope I have understood the question and this helps.

That is pretty much what I told him down in the XP forum.

Hi

Please don't ask the same question more than once as it can be become very confusing for all parties to follow.
