updating windows has been very spotty for me since installing sp2 a few months ago. the win update site, which has always worked for me, can now no longer install anything to me system without failing.

normally, thats not so bad cause auto update gets them promptly enough, but now i need to get Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool before i can update anything else and the web based update keeps failing at installing it, and i dont think the auto update even bothers, i dont know. all i know is that ive been stuck on this update for weeks now.

my IE security settings are at medium, and ive disabled all resident spyware protection, etc, but still always failing. and yes, my copy of windows is legit...

any ideas?? thanks in advance

thanks man... ran the validation tool, everything checked out, no problems, but win update still insists on running its activeX version everytime i try updating and it still fails to install. (verify itself doesnt, it doesnt even get a chance to run)...

any ideas??? thanks
