I recreated this situation for a user that contacted my support center and can't find a fix for it ANYWHERE. You go into the properties for Windows Explorer and you can change the Target for the default location that opens when Explorer is opened. I think the default is %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe . Instead of adding the e\ root to change the location, the entry was just removed completely. On restarting explorer, the target box is now set to My Computer and is greyed out, can't be changed. Is there a place in the registry to change this back to a value that can be edited?

Just delete the shortcut and create a new one...
