You can set your profile completeley read-only. Logon using account having admin rights. Then locate main folder for account you want to change readonly from c:\documents and settings. Rename file "ntuser.dat" to "ntuser.man". Now you can logoff and logon with that changed account. Now that user cannot make any permanent changes for his profile.

When you say it doesn't make any fixed changes to their profile, do work document and other files that they have created within C:\documents and settings\username\documents also get deleted?

I would like to have an account which can store documents and spreadsheets that they have created, but make no fixed changes to the desktop, taskbar etc. (I have restricted taskbar movement, and the properties etc from the context menu already, successfully)

No, work documents are not deleted. This only prevents making permanent changes to HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive on windows registry. Desktop icons are not registry settings, so this tip doesn't affect that. But as you have WXP pro, you can set folder permissions for "C:\documents and settings\<username>\desktop" so that the user cannot make any changes for desktop icons.
