I'm looking for a solution for menu text (File, Edit, View, etc.) on the inactive window.

In old Windows NT, when I open two applications. The one on inactive window will have the Title bar gray out, but the menu text still dark black, which is easy to read.

Now on the Windows 2000, if I do the same and open two applications, Title bar and Menu text are both gray out on the inactive window. We have an application that open and just resize to see only the Menu bar (File, Edit, View, etc). As a young person like me, I have no problem click directly on the grey menu text (File, Edit...), but it is a problem for some senior staff (old people) here. I know it is simple as click any part on that window to make it active, then the menu will be black text which is easy to see.

I would like to know if there is a registry hack that can make it works like the old windows NT.

Thanks

Same place it's always been since Windows 3.1 - Display Propeties - Appearance Tab - Advanced button

I have been trying that. No matter what color or size I change for the Menu text. They will all gray out when not focus on that window. For example: try to open 2 Notepad windows side by side. When you click on one, the other will have the title bar and the menu gray out. What I need is the menu stay black color on the inactive window. It worked that way on windows NT without any change.

I see. Why not change the color of the Inactive Title Bar to something lighter?

You can only change the "Inactive Title Bar", which is not what he is asking to change. He wants to change the "Inactive Menu Text", which cannot be changed from Display/Properties/Appearance.

I understand that. However, changing the color of the bar to something lighter should make the text more readable.

Not the Title-Bar.... the menu bar is on the line under the bar. You cannot change the color of the menu bar.

See here circled in red is what you can change, and circled in green is what he wants to change.

Thank you adg for your suggestion and brf for taking time to explain my question.

This is what I see so far:
Title text and background can be changed for both active and inactive windows.
Menu text and background can only change for active window. The menu text is gray on inactive window no matter what color it is in active. The menu background color will stay the same in both active and inactive.

So I took adg suggestion and make the menu background with an off-white color. When the window went inactive, gray color text on an off-white background is not as bad as gray text on gray background. That is what I guess I have to live with, unless someone else have another suggestion.

Thanks.
