will i have any performance slowdown?
is winXP not recommended for this config?
or will i be ok doing that?

The P3 700Mhz processor is OK, but only 128MB of RAM is not nearly enough (it takes about that much RAM just to load XP). You should have at least 256MB RAM and if your budget permits, 512MB RAM is where you need to be.

I'll second that. And if you kill all the unnecessary services once the install is done, things like System Restore and Themes, it'll free up a lot of resources and take a load off that 700MHz. It won't be speedy or anything, but I figure it'll be plenty usable.

I was about to do this very install this weekend on an old 700MHz Dell I found in my basement last night. I only had 256MB of RAM on hand but even then I was fairly confident it would work just fine till I could order 512.

thanks a lot Tom and jdharm

i found a 64 mb RAM lying idle in my desk.
do you reckon i can plug it in
actually i have never done it before.so can you detail me the steps to be taken after i plug in the 64 mb ram in the slot adjacent to the 128 mb ram

also someone told me that P3 cant tolerate more than 128 mb ram.i have the 810E motherboard.is that true?

can i have XP after i increase the RAM with this 64 to 192MB RAM?

I'm agree with Tom and Jdharm... BUT you could use nLite to disable (not to install) some Win programs and gain some resources...

Your Intel D810EMO mother board can take a max. 256MB RAM. Click on the Technical Product Specification (PDF) and follow the links for that boards System Memory Specifications for the type of RAM modules it can take. You cannot just drop in any old stick of RAM.
