Registry Problem (WXP-Home)

I have recently encountered a problem where when I click a mailto: hyperlink, my pc freezes for about 5 minutes and then pops up 52 new internet explorer windows.... I have looked in my registry and found that my HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto folder has become corrupted, it won't rename it wont delete, and I can't add a new string in there to solve the problem. Does anyone either know what i can do or have a regestry file to sort this out?

Not exactly sure what's going on with that, you say you can't delete it, so that makes me suspicious of a corrupted registry.

In Internet Explorer, you can go to Tools-->Internet Options-->Programs. Try changing your default e-mail program.

This may or may help, but worth a try:

OUTLOOK EXPRESS REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Quit all running programs.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 shell32.dll

Hi,

I have tryed all of those, I found that "mshmtl.dll, upnhisapi.dll, msvcrt.dll and cmds21.dll" didn't work.

As for changing my default mail program, I've tryed that but that doesn't work either.

Have you double checked to make sure your email account settings (especially Server) match those of your ISP?

Yeh I've checked that, I know what the problem is. My mailto key in the regestry is empty and i can't do anything to it, all I want to know is if someone either has a fix for this or a regestry file for it.

Well there is the HijackThis log file..... someone going to tell me what it means???

The analyzer doesnt see anything too weird, except for that uncommented comment in your hosts file. You should fix that.
