Ok. So I know this isn't really a help forum, but you all seem like smart computer savvy sorts. So I was having problems booting up my PC, it would get to the blue screen prior to log-in (this is a windows 2K pro computer). Anyway, I changed the boot sequence, from Removable to Hard Disk as I have had problems with my floppy drive in the past.

Anyway, that worked, but last night I plugged my computer into the place we are recording at, and it seemed fine. It asked me to do a couple windows security updates, and I did, installed no problem, I finished up checking my email and then shut it down. Come morning all I can get is the blue screen of death on boot up. I changed back the boot sequence, did fail safe defaults in bios. Tried using the 'Last known good configuration', tried safe mode, tried unplugging and plugging everything back in. All to no avail.

Either something must be fried, or it was the updates. Anyone know how I can do a rollback to a specified date or something? Or something else, anything...

Thanks for your time, and hopefully, your solutions.

Cheerio.

Sam

You should be able to uninstall those last secuity updates from Add/Remove Programs. If that is not the cure at least it eliminates it as a cause. I'm not really familiar with W2K, but if it does have System Restore, by all means, give it a try.

That would be great, but I can't boot the computer. It hangs before the login screen appears. It just thinks for a bit, then stays blue.

Any way to bypass this?

Can you still get into BIOS? If so, change the boot sequence so that the CD drive is #1; the HD #2 and the Floppy #3.

Now, see if you can boot with your Microsoft W2K CD. If not, you may have to bite the bullet and do a clean reinstall of W2K.

Good idea. Perhaps reinstalling a fresh copy over top of the old would help. REALLY stupid that the update fried me, if that is what it is. There should be some way to get back. Arg.

If you boot from the CD and follow along like you are doing an install you will get to a point where you can select your current Windows 2000 installation and press "R" to repair. Don't confuse it with the first "R" that takes you to the recovery console you don't want to go there.
