open on first click. It takes several clicks and a wait between clicks (30secs) and then the windows will open. This is for XP home.

Have you scanned for spyware with several spyware scanners? Spyware is most common reason for slow or crashing Internet Explorer.

Yes...AdAware...Trend Micro...The icon is just
non-responsive...like an old mule....once I click it
several times it opens and works fine...

Right click on the shortcut and select Properties.
It should show as:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"
If not, then make a new shortcut.
