This is a repeat of a thread I sent Sunday November 19, 2006.
I purchased a copy of Spyware Doctor about three weeks ago and loaded it on my computer. My operating system is Windows 2000 Pro. I am using an AMD XP-1600 running at 1.4 GHz and have 1 Gig of Ram. Upon loading the software it slowed down my computer to a crawl. Boot, down load upload run simple programs, everything slow. I would also get the "blue screen of death" and the computer would start downloading files making anything I wanted to do on the computer impossible. I would check for new down loads daily and load them if there was any. Still the same. So I cantacted Mirsoft and after two weeks working with them (sending all kinds of info from the computer files and running tests) they told me that the IKHFILE.SYS in the Spyware Doctor causing the problem. They recommended that I uninstall it, check what happens and contact you. I did. It started to run normal again and now here I am. Have you had any other complaints such as this one? I have sean several posted all over the internet. Is there an upgrade to this problem or am I stuck with having what I thought was the best spyware program on the market without resultion and my money down the drain? Pleas respond.

Hi RickS,

There may be a conflict between Spyware Doctor's kernel driver and that of an AntiVirus or other programs.

Could you please perform the following steps which will likely resolve the problem.

Restart the Computer in Safe Mode:

1. Click on the Start button. The Start menu will appear.
2. Select ''Shut Down'' from the menu (''Turn off Computer'' in XP).
The 'Shut Down Windows' dialog box will appear.
3. Select ''Shut down'' (or, ''Turn Off'' in XP) and click the Yes (or OK) button.
4. When the computer starts back up, begin immediately by pressing the F8 key repeatedly until the Windows Startup menu appears with various options.
5. By using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard, select 'Safe Mode'.
Do not select 'Safe Mode with networking' or any other modes.
6. Login to your account (if asked).
7. Wait and eventually Windows will start in Safe Mode.
8. Delete the file 'ikhlayer.sys' and 'ikhfile.sys' from c:\windows\system32\drivers\
9. Restart your computer

Spyware Doctor Version 5.0 will be released soon and the problem you are experiencing will be resolved with this new version.

Hope this helps.

Is there a fix for this yet? I have tried what is mentioned above and the problem keeps reoccuring. Can someone let me know if there is any update on this problem.
Thanks.

Austin,

what so of problems are you receiving? death screen, error messages? if you receive the death screen, normally this is due to the ikhfile and deleting this file should fix it. You can then download a newer version of this file with SD.

Yes i am receiving the death screen and I have tried deleting the Ikhfile in safe mode but the death screen still comes back. Where could I download the new ikhfile? Do you have a link?

Once you have deleted the ikhfile, you will need to untick the checkbox when you perform a Smart Update so that you do not re-download this file. This is the reason why the blue screen is still appearing.

Apologies for the last reply.

This appears to be a workaround, however, as stated by AChen, "Spyware Doctor Version 5.0 will be released soon and the problem you are experiencing will be resolved with this new version".

cheers :)

I think that would be the way to handle that issue with the individual software but Im dealing with the Enterprise software. Smart update is a little different with that. Do you know if there is a work around for Enterprise?

Hi austin,

Are you currently using Spyware Doctor Enterprise?

When are you receiving the death screen? When you try to perform a Smart Update?

I am currently using Enterprise. A user usually gets the blue screen upon startup BUT I have seen it while they were already logged in.

I'm having the same problem with ikhfile.sys. It crashes my network backup (using Genie-Soft).

When is version 5 of Spware Doctor available???

Thanks,
Dan
