I have three computers connected to eachother through a Linksys 10/100 Fast Ethernet 5-Port Network Hub. Two of the computers are connected directly, while one of them is connected through an intermediate wireless router (being a laptop). Finally, the hub itself is connected to the internet through the uplink port, with two additional IP addresses bought from my ISP. So:
Computer 1 --> Hub --> Internet
Computer 2 --> Hub --> Internet
Computer 3 --> Wireless --> Hub --> Internet
Computer 1 and Computer 3 (the wireless one) can see each other no problem, but no one can see Computer 2 (which is identical to Computer 1 in every way; I even set them up simultaneously with Windows XP Professional).
All three computers have the same Subnet Mask (255.255.255.0). The two computers that see each other (C1 & C3) have the same Default Gateway (192.168.1.1) and similar IP addresses (192.168.1.101 and 192.168.1.102). The other computer has a different default gateway and IP address (70.25.123.144 and 70.25.123.1), so I think that's the problem. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, all of this is being assigned by a DHCP server and I don't know how to pull the 70.25... computer into the sights of the other two!
As an aside, I use an iBook that is also being connected to the same hub/internet through an Airport Express wireless router:
Computer 4 --> Airport Wireless --> Hub --> Internet
Computers 1 and 3 can't see it, either, but instead of just having a different default gateway, it ALSO has a different subnet mask:
IP Add: 69.199.239.44
SMask: 255.255.255.128
Gateway: 69.199.239.1
I realize this is a Windows forum so I don't expect help with the Mac, but the information might be helpful to you if the problem with computer 2 is the same as the problem with my mac :)
