I recently got a new computer with Windows XP Home running on it. My old computer has Windows 98SE and has been with me for five years. It has a lot of files that I would like to get out of it when I need to. I've been trying for many hours to set up a network between them. I had my 98 successfully set up with another 98 a year ago, but nothing since then. I ran the network wizard on XP, copied it to a disk, ran it on the 98, but no luck. I've got both under the same workgroup with different names, I have both set under client for microsoft networks. Both have file and printer sharing set up. I have Zone alarm on 98 and Norton on XP, but I shut them both off when trying to connect. Both computers are hooked to a Cisco uBR900 router. I've gone through and changed settings, ran the wizard and rebooted so often today that I'm not sure what else I tried. Nothing I have found on the internet yet has been helpful. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Diana

Check if you have the following checked...

1. firewall on xp pc
2. same subnet mask on both pcs?
3. file sharing set?
4. Can you ping both pcs?
