Registry checker (W98)

I upgraded the Registry Mechanic program to 5.0.0142 and scanned the system - no problem - when I ran the compact registry - it restarted the computer in the 'miscrosoft registry checker' and it sticks on the second step 'checking registery structure' and won't go past 2% complete - even when left on over night. I can bring up the computer in 'safe mode' - any suggestions on how to by-pass this? It's been four days now - and everytime you boot up it does the exact same thing.

Go to Options in Registry Mechanic and disable the Auto Startup option. If you still have problems try un-installing Registry Mechanic and then re-install it.
