I have added a custom folder to "My Computer" using the "Add Custom Folder to My Computer or the Desktop" proceedure, it appears under "My Computer" -> Other and works well but... When I open notepad or winword I can't see my custom folder in "My Computer" do I have to set diferent attributes? Help!

Thanks

Mike

WinXP's Help and Support didn't show anything for your "Add Custom Folder to My Computer or the Desktop", might I ask what the procedure is you used?

On my WinXP Pro [and Win2000] Right-clicking My Computer or clicking File in Windows Explorer gives no choice of New like it does when File, New after a drive icon has been clicked on or when right-clicking in the right pane. Maybe I'm missing something?

I'll try to duplicate it later today but off-hand I'd say the programs' mini-file managers aren't set up to see other folders.

I do note the date on that article is a few months before WinXP came out.

Well, my main goal is to create a virtual linked folder to a UNC and have it show up in My Computer so I can browse to it using file open in word. If anyone knows how to create the same type of object only under a different section in My Computer that may do it.

Thanks Mike

I have a Peer-to-Peer Network and using Windows Explorer have been able to add a Shortcut [right-click and drag, choose Create Shortcut Here] to my wife's My Documents folder on Win98SE computer into the My Documents folder on my WinXP Pro computer. Using the Open in Word 2003 and clicking that shortcut opens the folder and shows all the documents on my wife's.

Great! But, what I need to do is have it show up in the "My Computer" not "My Documents".

Thanks

I didn't get yours to work either. It would appear the problem may lie with the folder having to reside on the computer instead of a computer on the network but I'm not able to verify that.

I don't think that is it. I think its because it shows up in the OTHER section of My Computer. Nothing I have listed in my OTHER section shows up when I do a FILE OPEN in any application.

Why dont you map a Network Drive to it? That will show up in My Computer

I work for a organization that has over 25,000 network nodes. We have run out of Drive letters and I am sick of them.. There must be a way to map UNC's and have them show in the drive section of MY computer or the shared folder section. I just can't find the section in the registry.
