I've been trying to install Win. defalt CD player...no luck. This PC has Media 9, I ran Win. update CD after the PC was formatted. Anyone know if I need to uninstall M.9 player before I can get it off my CD-ROM. I don't use 9 player all the time....is there another player similar to that little Windows player?--I like to use it on my Dell, it uses very little RAM plus I have a good speaker system.

In the C:\Windows folder should be the file CDPLAYER.EXE. If so double-click it to see if it still works. If so right-click it and choose Send To then Desktop [Create Shortcut].
If the file isn't there you could either put SFC in the Start, Run box and see if System File Checker will replace it or you could go to the Win98 folder on the CD and extract a copy of the file from the WIN98_66.CAB file [Win98SE] or the WIN98_59.CAB [Win98].

It's not in C:\Windows and I couldn't see it on Win. 98SE CD. I did type in 'find files' and it found the zip file on the CD. I'm not experienced enough to do this. I'll get another player like Winamp or have someone help me do this.
Hey, if I uninstalled Media 9 it about have to install the default player then..?
Thanks a lot.

No, uninstalling one will not necessarily re-install the original.
If you can see the individual files in the .cab file just drag cdplayer.exe to the desktop and then move it into C:\Windows. Then right-click it and Send to Desktop, Create Shortcut.

OK...I see 040xxx_1408 [D:] and the Win. 98 folder while I'm exploring the 98SE CD. I click the Win. 98 folder and see 'setup', user, scandisk, extract...etc. plus a lot of zip-files. I don't see .cab file. I did copy that WIN98_66.CAB (win-zip file) to a folder. I appreciate this...I'm trying.
