Alright so i finally ditched WIN95 and now i am running WIN98 but with just a few problems. I have two hard drives one of them has WIN98 on it and the other WINXP. I have them hooked up to the motherboard so in the BIOS it should say that My primary is the one with WIN98 and my secondary is the one with WINXP but it says just the opposite and i really don't know what to do here. And the other thing is that i can't seem to get it to reconize my audio drivers. i have the Gigabyte cd that game with my motherboard that has the drivers on it but whenever i install it i have to restart my computer and after i restart it its like i never installed the drivers. what do i do?? Thanks in advanced for all of the help!

Maybe just the label itself. When you boot it up, is it win98 or xp? Do you have boot magic? If so, that may help you determine what drive you have

What I'd do is get one version booted up, right-click My Computer and Properties, will tell you which version is booted. Boot to the other drive and do the same.

Then I'd go to Windows Explorer, click on the :\Windows folder and look at some of the file dates, the ones with the OS Win98 will have 1998 or 1999 as the year. Then I'd look in the other drive in the same place and check those dates, will be late 2001 or later depending upon the Service Pack level.

Some files names to look at will have the extension .scr and .bmp.

Another clue, Win98's System32 folder will have very few files and folders in it where WinXP's System32 folder will have lots.

And if Win98 is on C: [has to be on the System/Boot drive usually set as C: by the BIOS] and WinXP is on D: but you can't access C: from Win98, then the WinXP drive may be formatted as NTFS, Win98 can't read it.

To install drivers for hardware [AC97 implies onboard audio] one has to be booted to the Operating System where the drivers are needed, can't be installed when booted to another OS. And those drivers frequently come on the CD accompanying the motherboard or computer.

"and then it says it 'found new hardware' and asks for the WIN98 CD"

Insert the AC97 driver CD instead of the Win98 CD.
You may have to browse to the correct Win98 drivers on the CD.
