I have a WindowsNT4 server running a bunch of 95/98/(even ME) clients. Using policies I thought I had some security. However if someone runs, for example WORD, and opens a file, they can enter C:\ in the file name section of the file open dialogue box and immediately access files on the local C drive !! I hadn't realised this (duuuhhh!!). So how do I stop it. It can be done via Notepad for instance. a) can I stop manual entering of characters in the filename dialogue box for all these damn programs?? b)Can I somehow further restrict C drive access (they cannot see the C drive until they enter via the file name box). Am I missing something ????

There isn't any way of disabling them typing c: without using third party software. Try searching http://www.windows95.com - I have foung software there before for locking c: so they can see it but not write to it. (Or get windows 2000!)
