Hi, I ressently install a fresh Windows 2000 Pro (SP4) and keyboard and mouse are not working when the o.s. is started... but they work before booting like in the Bios or if I want to access to "Windows 2000 Advanced Option Menu" by doing "F8" key. If I boot in Safe Mode, keyboard/mouse work! If I boot normally, and I connect remotely to this machine with VNC and go to "Device Manager" I can't see "Keyboard" item but I can see "Mouse" with notice: Device cannot start". I tryed to boot with "Last know good configuration" and it work... but after, I reboot and my problem come back again. I also check in the registry and I see the "UNKNOWN_KEYBOARD" identifier key instead the "PCAT_ENHANCED" or something like that normally. If I change this, Windows replace it to UNKNOWN_KEYBOARD. I tryed to plug an USB keyboard... and it worked but if I return to PS/2 devices after reboot, Windows dont detect anything... I tryed to delete Keyboard and Mouse in "Device Manager" and reboot without success... I tryed to force hardware detection without positive results... I'm stuck! I got a lot of machine like this and it's the first time that kind of problem happen. I can't use USB device because this machine is on a rackmount in a server room and keyboard/mouse are connected to a KVM Extender (monitor/keyb/mouse are on a different location).

The hardware on this machine is:

Intel Pentium IV 3.0 GHz
Asus PSCH-L Server Board
Kingston DDR400 1 Gb. ECC Dual Channel
Adaptec 2410SA RAID-5 PCI-64 Bit Controller
4 X Western Digital S-ATA 10 000 RPM Hard Drives
Digigram VX822 Multichannel Sound Card

Operating system is Windows 2000 Professionnal SP4 (with all updates applyed).

And there is only one software installed on this machine (RCS Sound Software - Software for radio stations)

Thanks in advance for you're help if you got any ideas about this!

delete the keyboard and mouse drivers in device manager and reboot. Hopefully W2K will properly detect the keyboard and mouse and load the correct drivers. I am assuming these are not usb. if usb you need to install the correct usb drivers for them to work.

If you leave the keyboard connected and the mouse disconnected, does the keyboard works? Is this a Logitech mouse? Have you tested your KVM Extender in another machine?

No, it dosent work. All kind of combination like this has been done! (unplug device and reboot, unplug mouse only, keyb. only, remove KVM and plug devices directly to the computer, etc.)

I got a lot of machine like this with same configuration and it work well. I tryed to replace the motherboard too (with same) because I suspect PS/2 I/O error but without positive results.

Thanks for you're suggestion! I'm searching again for more answers!
