IE bad, ping good. What gives here? (WXP-Pro)

I'm able to ping anywhere I try, but always get the cann'd "can't get page" (or 704 or whatever that page is when you're offline or the page is bad) when I try to go anywhere in IE.
So, ping is good, IE won't go.
Any suggestions?

i had this once. connected but unable to access any web pages. it turned out to be a really complex issue with proxy settings.

did you do a system restore?

Lord no... I hate system restores... Only a last resort for me... But, that doesn't mean I don't appreciate your suggestion. I do. I just hope that it doesn't come to that.
