a friend has a problem on their pc, when it starts up it displays a series of program not found messages and refer to approx 6 batch files it is looking for, DellTy.bat, DellTv.bat to name a couple, this is obviously a program they have installed as a trial or similar then deleted but the registry has not updated i would guess? How can i find and delete these references to this non existant program. it also attempts to log on to the net and loads msn messenger at startup, how can i stop this loading at startup, have unchecked the load at windows startup option but still loads

If those error messages are displayed on a black screen with white lettering before the Windows logo, look in the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files for those entries. Type REM and a space before each line and reboot, check the results.

many thanx for your prompt reply, however the messages appear after windows has loaded, the desktop is all loaded up and it is as if the program is loading to the task bar, any more ideas on this would be most appreciated

Maybe you should also look at system.ini and win.ini from your windows directory as well

Also,

type in msconfig, on startup, you should see a list of program starting up.
