hi guys......
Need help badly.....
i installed a new harddisk(seagate 80gig) in my laptop(toshiba tecra 8100), i partitioned it C: (Win98SE 20 gig fat32) D: (WinXP pro 20 gig ntfs) E: (Storage files 40 gig fat32)..... directory E: is where i save all my files and picts...... same thing with my DESKTOP......
my problem is, when i boot my laptop(tecra 8100) in winXP pro and save some files or pictures in directory E: and then when i boot my laptop in win98SE, i can't see the files i saved in directory E: or sometimes its like garbled files......
i cant figure out how to solve this problem, my desktop( C: (Win98SE 10gig) D: (WinXP pro 10gig) E: (10 gig) F: (10 gig) ) is the same setup as my laptop but i'm not having problems, no matter i save some files or pictures in WinXP pro environment, i can still view or edit the files or picts in Win98SE environment in my directory E:...... i don't know why my laptop is acting differently now, before it was not like that........
i tried searching for some info to resolve this but none......
can anyone help me please.......
hope to hear from u guys soon......

How did you create the 40GB partition? WinXP [and Win2000] can't create or format FAT32 partitions over 32GB but can work with larger ones after creation by Win98/ME.

i used fdisk, my first setup was C:(Win98SE 15gig fat32) D:(WinXp pro 15gig NTFS) E:(Storage_1 20gig Fat32) F:(Storage_2 20gig Fat32) G:(Storage_3 10gig Fat32)..... and then a problem occured, any files or picts i save in directory G: and F: win98se(using win explorer) cant view it or its garbled..... or drive is inaccessible
the next thing i did, i partitioned it like this C:(Win98SE 20gig Fat32) D:(WinXp pro 20gig NTFS) E:(Storage 40gig Fat32) and then made a lot folders for my files and picts......
actually i'm also having problem with msword, all my files or documents created in office xp cant be viewed properly(its like opening a picture file) in msword 2000..... but if my file is created in msword 2000, msword XP can view it properly......
but with my desktop, things is working fine.... i dont know why my laptop is acting differently?.....
can u give me a hand here please..... :)
for me to view my files, i have to switch OS.....
thanks for ur time, hope to hear from u soon.....

I'm still thinking the issue is with the 40GB partition.
What I'd try if it were my computer is to set up 4 equal sized partitions then install first Win98SE on C: then WinXP on D:.
D: could still be NTFS but for Win9x/ME to access partitions other than C: they have to be FAT32. I have only 2 partitions on my Notebook and both are FAT32 for that reason. Now that the need for that setup is gone I probably will re-install WinXP on just one partition.
Your problems with Word 2000 and Word 2002 could simply be their own issue, Word 2002 may be treating the format of the documents differently and Word 2000 can't deal with it.

thanks again for ur time...... :)
i think i have done that already, i partitioned my harddisk equally 20gig, but still experiencing same problem...... when i'm in win98se environment and save some picts on directory F: and then in winxp pro environment, the picts i saved in directory F: does not exist or garbled, its like the folder where i saved my picts is encrypted........ or sometimes when i make a folder in directory F: in winxp pro or vice-versa, the folder does not exist...... but when i saved some files in directory E: i can open files in both OS...... thats why i ended in 40gig partition in directory E:.... i find it weired, i thought maybe my laptop couldn't handle to many partitioned directories......
anyways, i have a magic partition, i'll try what u suggested, i'll partition my 40gig..... been working on this problem for 3 weeks already...... :(
