Hi all,

I have a problem with an address not clearing from the IE address bar correctly. It will appear as part of the type-ahead feature when typing in an address with a similar beginning (or even the first letter of this particular address). I would like to find a way to remove it.

So far, I have done the following:
Clear the address bar by "clear history"
Manually delete the cookie files (temp internet files, settings, view files, select all, delete)
Removed some objects which appeared concerning (temp internet files, settings, view objects)
Searched through the registry for the address (on both the full and partial address).
Searched through the machine for any files containing the address (full and partial)

This problem doesnt actually do anything to the machine, so I'm very doubtful its spyware/malware. Even so, I have run spyware programs and found there to be no problem.

Is there anywhere else I can check it may be getting this address from?

Many Thanks!

Details:
IE v6.0.2800
Win XP Home SP1

Delete the file INDEX.DAT from your Temporary Internet Files folder, as well as in your History folder...

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply (and apologies for not getting back sooner).

I'm still having a little trouble with this.
Looking for index.dat, I found a few entries (and removed some obvious IE-related ones). One remains though. Its path is:
C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Cookies

I cant delete that one - it reports the file is in use (even with no IE windows open, a few processes closed, and a reboot).

I have no index.dat in my Temp internet files folder, nor in my History folder.

Is there any further advice you can offer?

Cheers!

Right click on that Idex.dat file in Documents and Settings, select rename and then rename it index.old.
