I want to know how to create a mirrired volume on WIN2K Professinal. When I am in the Disk Administrtor and click on the drive to mirror the "Add Mirror" option is grayed out. Both hard drives are 40 gig.

software raid is only available in the server product line. Your solution is to purchase a ide raid card.

You can add a stripe set [spanning] but not a mirror. As was mentioned before you'll need a PCI RAID card. I'd go with Promise I've used them for a couple years now and they've been great so far.

While in Disk Management right click on your drives to Upgrade to Dynamic Disk. After rebooting you can then mirror your drives in the disk management tools in Win2k. Works the same in XP. Windows 2000 or XP will not mirror drives until they are upgraded to Dynamic volumses. Odd that no one caught that.

Its because you missed that its not server and software mirroring has never been available at the workstation level.
