I have this pc with 2 partitions. First one it was win98 and the one is winxp Pro. The wireless settings are exactly the same. However, I have a bit problem connecting from WinXP Pro.

I am using linksys router and wireless card.
For win98, I turn it on, and wireless card detected very good signal and I can surf internet and whatever.

However for winxpro, even though it said very good or excellent, I have to go to site survey and connect my wireless network in order to get it working --- browsing, aim and etc.

Firewall? I turned it off and on. same thing.
Enter DNS manually? - Done that still no good. I tried DHCP and enter DNS manually, the result is still the same.

No matter what I do, I have to go to Site Survey and find my network and enter my WEP key.

I did set it up for automatic connect for network connection, but it doesn't do it that way.

I did install sp2, and it makes no difference.
I tried to turn off wep and it makes no difference either.

Any suggestion that I don't have to connect manually from site survey?

Thanks for advance

Are you letting Windows control your Wireless Network or have you installed the software that came with the Wireless Card & Router??

Basically, if you using the Windows Wireless setup to control your network, don't!! I've found Windows to make a right hash of this and it's not very reliable at all. Install the software that came with the Wireless Card and configure it through that.

Linksys has a wireless utility which is the one I use and which is the one I always click on site survey to connect...

Like I said, win98 does not have a problem at all.

So I assume then that the Windows XP Wireless application is disbled, and not confliting with the "real" wireless software?
