View Full Version : Sound changes pitch (W2K)

Compaq EN866 (P3), Intel AC'97 sound.
Win2k SP4, WMP9
CD playback is at incorrect speed (too fast) so it sounds like Mickey Mouse doing the vocals. Elapsed time counter is also running fast.
MPEG/AVI playback (in Media Player) is fine.
Caller voice on Skype is also pitched high (caller hears my voice at correct pitch).
As far as I can recall, this arose after installing SP4, but that may not be the case.
Anyone else seen similar behaviour or able to suggest a fix?
Thanks in advance

I have the same problem when i try to upgrade to win2k from win98. It's requires plug & play device files :- bda ipsink, bda mpe filter, bda slip deframer, nabts/fec vbi codec and world standard teletext codec. All the info for these is at the MSDN site, but i can't find anywhere to download or install them from. If you have better luck than me, i'd appreciate the info.

Try this, it may help BUT it could be drivers also.
Control Panel > Sounds Icon > Audio Folder > Sound Playback > Advance Button > Performance Folder > Hardware Acceleration side bar > move it all the way to the Left and OK & then try it. If the sound is OK then you are done, if not, go back and move the slider, in small increments, to the right.
If the above doesn't help, on the hardware properties for your CD drive (in Device Manager), un-check Enable digital CD audio for this device if is checked and try sound again.
If still no joy, post back and we'll scratch our head again. There seem to be quite a few folks with the same problem.
