you might have to release the IP when you disconnect you PC and connect your lap-top if your not using a router that is

mouse error click here to continue.....

you might have to release the IP when you disconnect you PC and connect your lap-top if your not using a router that is usually the BB modem takes the mac address of the device connected to it in this case your PC and give it a lease and wil only give an IP to that mac addres so when you plug the laptop in it wont reconise it as the devise thats supposed to be connected to it but if you go to start/run/ type: "ipconfig/release_all"
withought the " it will release the IP address and you can unplug the Network cable and plug it in the Win2K laptop and boot up with it and it should work then follow the same step to switch again.
if you have a router it's a different problem all together tho

Keyboard error press F1 to continue...
mouse error click here to continue.....
Press any key to continue.......WHERE'S THE ANY KEY!!!

Hi there,

I 'll try that. Please note that i am not connected to a network. My PC crashed recently so i am using a laptop.....which has an internal modem used for phone dialup.

but the issue is that I am not able to detect the speedtouch modem in Win2000 laptop (also tried connecting to a Laptop having windows 98 SE).

It always shows the internal modem of the laptop in the modem properties. though i have tried disabling the internal modem in Device manager. Also, in Device manager (where you get list of all the devices attached to the computer) does not show the Speedtouch modem under "Modems" name, but as a seperate device under name "Speedtouch Modem". when i highlight it & check the Properties, it shows that "This Device working fine"...

What i want to happen is that whenever i plug in the Speedtouch modem to the laptop, it should detect my modem, so that i can connect to the BB service.

Warm regards,

Eijaz

Is the Broadband modem connected trough USB or Ethernet? If it is USB, you need to install the modem's drivers...

Yes,it is connected at the usb port directly, behind Computer....

I am not on a LAN... I have also reinstalled the modem drivers twice.....OS still not able to detect the modem.....Getting 2 solid green lights on modem, but all sorts of errors.viz., error 633 before...now error 797.....

When you are connected to a Broadband modem, you should not see it in "Modems" -- that is only for dialup modems. You connect to your broadband modem through your LAN connector.

Open internet explorer and go to tools, internet options. have a look at the settings under the connections tab. Your default connection is likely set to your dialup connection. You may have to run the internet connection wizard to setup a LAN connection and make it default. Your laptop will then only use the dialup if the LAN connection is unavailable.

You are right!I get it as a separate name under speedtouch modem. But when i create a new connection & check the connection's properties, it shows only the internal modem in the list & not the speedtouch modem.

Please also note that i am not using a LAN connector as i am not on a network.

i have already made a new connection after deleting the old one. still get the internal modem reflecting in the connection...not speedtouch ADSL modem.

Please note that i am not using a LAN connector or not connected to a network. ITs a home PC....

When you ran the network connection wizard did you select "I connect though a local area connection [LAN]" Even though it's a USB connection, it's still a LAN connection. If you use the other option "I connect though a phone line and modem" It will use your internal modem for the connection.

As the_Dude says, and I tried to explain before, when you are connected to a broadband modem, you are actually connecting through a LAN, composed of your computer and the broadband "modem". Your computer will not see the broadband modem as a modem, but as another device on a LAN. This is true whether you are connecting with a network wire, or USB.
