hello guys im new to this forum and i have been reading some stuff because i have a problem with win2000, but i dont really know what i'm looking for and maybe someone could tell me what to read about or tell me the answer :D

Well heres the problem i have a lan with 4 pcs, 1 has xp home, another has win2000, another has winxp pro(its a laptop) and the server which runs win2000 and doesnt do anything besides file sharing and printing...

I can add the printer with my winxp pro laptop and print fine, i even restart the machine and works, the problem is the xp home and win2000 pcs they dont see the printer until i log into the server files and ask me for a user and a password, when i do this, i magically can access the printer with both the xp home pc and the win2000 pc but if i restart the pcs i cant print anymore i have to \\server and thrown in the user and password to start printing..

If i dont do this i go to the printer managment and i see the printer as unavailable, unable to connect to printer and stuff like that...

maybe has something to do with trust passwords or a net use command but i dont know how to do either. could someone please help me :S

Normally, WinXP Home Edition isn't used on Server-based networks, need the increased security of WinXP Pro. But part of that security is having to be logged in to have access to network resources. My Peer-to-Peer network with Win98SE, WinXP Pro, and Win2000 Pro [each has its own printer] also requires logging into both Win2000 and WinXP with a drive mapped on each for the shared printers to be available.
