No sound (W2K)

Just re-installed windows 2k and now I have no sound. Tried downloading drivers. I get a message saying Direct Sound resources ,such as priority level were already in use by another caller.
Please HELP!

What does the dxdiag.exe say?

Maybe you installed two different version of soundcard drivers.
Is the soundcard present in the device list?
What's it's status?

Do you have no sound whatsoever or no sound in winamp only?
If so does the winamp just crash with an error or does it 'play' but no sound comes out?
Check out the sounds and multimedia properties, audio and hardware tabs, is your hardware listed there?

Did you plug in the speakers? ;) Yes, I know it has nothing to do with Direct Sound resources..
