Howdy,

I've worked with a wireless home network for quite some time now. The setup is a router connected to the internet in the livingroom, to which one computer is connected by cable. The other computer is connected via the wireless network (802.11b).

The thing is, i'm experiencing some odd things when pinging the router (192.168.1.1). When connected via cable, ping -t 192.168.1.1 returns this:

Svar fra 192.168.1.1: byte=32 tid=1ms TTL=127
Svar fra 192.168.1.1: byte=32 tid=1ms TTL=127
Svar fra 192.168.1.1: byte=32 tid=1ms TTL=127
Svar fra 192.168.1.1: byte=32 tid=1ms TTL=127
Svar fra 192.168.1.1: byte=32 tid=1ms TTL=127
Svar fra 192.168.1.1: byte=32 tid=1ms TTL=127

All the way down. There seems to be a perfect connection. Yet with a when connected via wireless, it returns this:

Svar fra 192.168.1.1: byte=32 tid=1ms TTL=127

I realise the connection shouldn't be perfect on wireless, but i'm a bit worried about those sudden leaps in pingtime. I'm not the sort of guy who randomly decides to ping his router and notice this, but I've noticed that a game (Guild Wars) disconnects at times, and lags at other times. It works fine via cable, but not wireless. Also to note, I occassionally receive some "Request timed out" notifications in the ping output. Eek?

Is something wrong with my Wireless LAN? Is there anything I can do to fix it? Or is this the nature of wireless networking?

By the way, the language in the ping stuff is danish. It shouldn't be difficult to understand, but do post if you're in doubt. I'd appreciate any help!

wireless is wireless. It is not as secure or as stable as wired. I would not consider wireless the best way to play a network game. Your stats look normal to me.

Wireless can be interrrupted by microwave, any electric current. The best way to get stable wireless connection is to bring your machine next to the wireless router, but then.. if you can do that.. hook up a cable................ :)
