hello

i have a very boring problem, that is that windows 2000 professional (italian) restarts randomly and when he wants. the system is clean, has been recently formatted, there are no viruses nor worms or spywares and i do have sp4 and all recent hotfixes installed.

i have been thinking at a hardware problem, and i have tested various ram modules, i got a new power supply, and tested another CPU i have here as well, yet the problem still exisit.

so although the only thing left to check is the motherboard, and that COULD be the cause of the restarts, there is another CRAZY thing.

i have a dell inspiron 510m laptop and it does the EXACT same thing that my desktop computer does, therefore i am thinking it definetely has something to do within the operating system.

time ago i used to run windows 2000 server and the same thing would happen. i am considering to install XP or eventually switch to linux since i am unable to work like this.

restarts happen randomly, sometimes when i'm browsing a website, sometimes when i'm copying files, and sometimes when its simply idle.

i have also tried to remove the firewall and upgrade it, i have zone alarm free, latest release.

any help HIGHLY appreciated.

thanks

Gabrio

What exactly does it do when it restarts?

it just restarts, the laptop went in blue screen and restarted afterwards, this one (machine i am on now), restarts without doing anything. i am now installing XP.

Try this:
Go to System Properties - Advanced - Startup & Recovery Settings and uncheck "Automatically Restart". If it's a software problem, you'll get a bluescreen error instead of a reboot.

let us know if you do install Win XP and if the problems stop

Keyboard error press F1 to continue...
mouse error click here to continue.....
Press any key to continue.......WHERE'S THE ANY KEY!!!
