I am using Win98SE workstations on a Novell4.11 network. One of these stations switches from DOS applications to Windows many times a day. After a few weeks, this machine begins to hang, during operation and boot. Very soon the graphics adapter will need to be replaced or need an fdisk and system re-install. This does not seem to be a problem on machines not logged in to the network. Can anyone shed a light on this problem?
thank you

Maybe it is not graphic adapter, but client issue. Which one do you use?
The latest Windows 95/98 client software release available from Novell is "Novell Client 3.4".

The Novell client is 3.2. There are more problems than ever with the newer clients. Also, we are forced to use Win98SE. Our supplier has advised that he can no longer get parts to put together this machine.
The problem we have seems to be a combination of file locking and changing OS from DOS to Windows. The problem is on 1 station only. There we replace the machine every 6 months. There are only 4 files shared by both DOS and Windows. We are aware that even though file sharing is enabled for all, a DOS app cannot write to one of these files if bookkeeping has it open in Windows. The 2 OS's don't see each other. When we tried the newer Novell clients, this type collision locked files even if the station was shutdown. This caused a server reboot.
We do know that the DOS app changes the monitor settings to 80 columns, 25 lines plus the color. When closing the DOS app and going to Windows, these settings are changed again. Since the graphics driver has to be reinstalled often in this 1 machine, we are led to believe that this change is part of our problem. Other stations that switch from DOS to Windows do not have this problem.
I think that if we could find a reliable way to copy these 4 files to another server folder, assign that folder to bookkeeping, then copy any changes made in bookkeeping back to the original folder, we would eliminate this problem.
Thanks for any ideas on this.
