View Full Version : IE not maximizing properly (WXP-Pro)
hiya
When I try to maximise my IE window, it maximizes, but positions itself about 2cm below from the top of the screen!
This is annoying, and it means the satatus bar is obscured from me!
see this link for a screenshot:

Try right clicking on the IE icon in the Quick Launch bar and select Properties.
In the 'Run' box select "Maximized" using the drop down button.
Click Apply and Ok.

You are welcome.
actually, this is now happening again and changing the properties doesn't seem to help anymore!
I have a feeling the problem occurs after visiting this website: http://www.nitinsawhney.com which uses javascript to resize the browser! Its just a website for a music artist - no offensive content!
Any ideas would be appreciated - and I'll stop visitng that site!

Setting the properties as noted above will only effect the pages opened with it.
Java scripts can change window sizes but IE remembers the last size viewed for secondary pages.
I only gave you the answer to the question at the time of your posting but there is a second part to the tutorial and it effects secondary windows.
I learned this here at Winguides a few years ago when it seemed to be a continual hot subject.
You already have part one.
With no instances of IE running use the IE icon in the QuickLaunch bar to open IE. It should still open maximized. If not reset it's properties; to do so for this exercise (deselect and reselect 'Maximized' and click Apply and Ok).
Now, with one instance of IE open right click on any link (not that problem Java page though) and select Open in New Window.
Now left click and drag the title bar to align with the top left edge of your monitor's viewable screen.
Then, wave over the bottom right edge of the IE window so that it changes to the angled two sided arrow cursor and left click and drag it to the bottom right hand corner of your viewable screen (above the task bar though).
Now, switch to the first window you opened by clicking on it's task bar button. Close it by clicking the X in the upper right hand corner.
With only the second window open close it the same way.
In doing the above you have set the first window to open Maximized and have set the secondary window size into IE's memory (so to speak).
There is no such thing as a 'Maximized' secondary window. It can only be resized.
To avoid Java pages from messing you up just make sure that the Java page is not the last secondary window you close before exiting the browser application.
You can always reset the secondary page again by doing the above procedure.

I just tried your referenced site <a target="_blank" href=http://www.nitinsawhney.com>http://www.nitinsawhney.com</a> and see how it resizes it to something similar to a wide screen.
I closed it and then opened another secondary window. That one opened to the size I had expected and not the wide screen view.

Bryan
