If this just started within the last five days you could try a registry restore.

When the system is booting, just after the POST screen, (Power On Self Test) and just before the windows "splash" screen comes on start tapping either the Ctrl or F8 key. (You have to be quick.) You should get the Microsoft Startup Menu. Choose Command Prompt Only. When you get the C:\> prompt, type in;

scanreg/restore (some sysytems like a space between; scanreg /restore)

and hit Enter. Pick a restore file which PRECEEDS the problem occurring. If no major system files have been removed you should get back into a working windows environment.

Post back with your results or any questions.

Have you reloaded an O/S, or is the drive still wiped?

Download a 98 bootdisk image;

http://www.cyberus.ca/~danpenny/WIN98SE.EXE

and run the file to create the bootdisk. Don't just copy the file to a floppy. Once you have it made, boot the machine with it and install your O/S from your CD.
