HI Guys,

I've recently bought myself a Netgear DG384G wireless ADSL modem and router. My plan was to configure my current BT Broadband through it to remove the lengthy cables I have running round my house.

The router is working as it should be, at least it detects my broadband and I'm able to see my wireless network and connect to it. However, I'm not able to connect to the broadband. In the set up of the router, it asks whether my broadband connection requires a username and password, which I'm sure it does, but this is something I've never known, because BT Broadband doe's all this behind the scenes when you first install the software.

So, my main question, doe's anyone know how I can get round this, or if there is a sort of "generic" username and password for BT Broadband?

Many thanks in advance

Gavin

The first step is to contact BT Broadband.

Tried that with no luck, they seemed rather unwilling to help on hardware that's not their own.

You dont need help with the hardware, you just need to know your username and password for the DSL login. It had to be part of your setup.

The problem is that BT don't provide you with the username and password when you install the modem and software, it's all done behind the scenes.

When installing it for the first time, or any time for that matter, it asks you for your name, the landline used to connect, and an email address for contact reasons, that's it, it doe's all the rest in secret.

I've asked them for the log in details and they won't give them to me, and I'm not paying £100 for their wireless modem when I got my own for half that.

Try your username (as in your email userid) and password.

And are you talking about setting up pppoe??

Ok, I've figured out that the username is firstname.lastname@btbroadband.com, but have no idea what the password is as I was never asked to set up a password, nor told what the password was.

Any ideas?

Try configuring with just your user name (no password) and see if it works. If not, try your phone number as the password.

In this case, you should contact BT broadband, I don't think there is a problem to reset or give you the password for email account

Well after some considerable time on the phone I managed to squeeze the required information from BT personnel.

Username is firstname.lastname@btbroadband.com.

No password is required in most cases, however some routers (some Netgear for example) may require one, in this case, the password is BT.

Problem solved.
