I'm having lots of fun with Internet Explorer on my other computer. I have Norton Antivirus and Lavasoft Adaware as well Service Pack 2.
Problem 1:
The Go button freezes Internet Explorer - The Enter key yields the same results.
Problem 2:
The Popup blocker disapeared
Problem 3:
so did the activex control
Problem 4:
Windows update fails after I click download and Instal. (it says that it is unable to open the page error# 0x800A138F)

Please note this happened to me twice of all things :-( Last time I uninstalled Service Pack 2 which succesfully removed Internet explorer and installed internet explorer seperatly which fixed all the problems exept of course not the features that are limited to service pack 2. When I reinstalled Service Pack 2 everything worked after the first start up. After the second start up every thing was back to not working. Now when windows shuts down I get an error saying that "The application failed to initialize because windows is shutting down" even though I didn't just start anything Any Ideas ??????

The troubleshooting for windows update did nothing.
The only windows update I'm missing is one for Outlook Express (nothing major) thankfully.
One other comment: I also receive a message that Service Pack 2 is not detected when Internet Explorer crashes. I know for my self that it is because it is listed in the Add/remove programs and it took 2 hours to install.

I have a feeling it all has one problem. Because if part of the service pack is failing to start up it still could be trying when windows is shutting down - thus the error message when windows shuts down. Also the message I receive when IE crashes would make sense because the SP2 failed which would also stop Activex control from functioning properly and thus windows update. The other thing is it would also show the popup blocker.

Something tells me its all linked - exept maybe the problem with the go button altough that could be due to interference from the other IE addons from SP2.

Does Anyone have Any Idea???

uninstall Norton Antivirus first, and do your windows update (see if you are successful in that case) then put norton antivirus back

I now have another problem to include. Internet Explorer Freezes when clicking on some links. Because I can only browse by links at the moment because my go button causes IE to crash I'm rather stuck for options.
:-(

download a copy of firefox or netscape and try it from there. And see if it is ie or your system that caused the error.

I have downloaded and installed netscape and it is fine absolutely no functional problems there. (I had to download it on another computer and send it via msn messanger :-) where there is a will there is a way!)

I also downloaded hijackthis and recorded the following log:

In that case, either repair your ie or downgrade it frist (restore to orginal ie) and upgrade again. That may solve the problem

I tried that but in order to down-grade internet explorer I had to uninstal SP2 which was succesful. I then reinstalled IE 6 and everything worked fine. However, when I reinstalled SP2 everything went to the same problems(ie go button not working, activex control gone, windows update not working, popup blocker gone, and links not working) Netscape still works
