12 Character Share Names (All)

Our Center has recently upgraded from a mixture of NT and 2000 Servers to Server 2003 and 2000 servers, but now all the win98 Boxes can't see share names longer then 12 characters. Funny thing, this is a limitation in NT and 2000 as well as 2003, but why did it work with only the NT and 2000 servers and not the Server 2003 implamentation. In the mean time we are going to re-name the shares, but would like to know a fix

I'm aware of that. 98 should not be able to read more then 12 characters, but it has been for the last 4 years, and we never questioned it untill now. We had no problems with it before, what allowed us to view them, that is disallowing us now?
