hotmail,yahoo etc server

This might not be the right forum for this question, then apologize...

I am wondering about where my e-mails reside when I use web-based e-mail providers like hotmail and yahoo. Is everything stored on one server or on multiple servers? Then what happens if this server brakes down etc.

If you use web mail, most likely you are using their server depending on what mail client you have. Each .com company has their own server, why did you ask about multiple servers????? You as a client use the email space they offer you. If it is not downloaded to your pc. They will all be in their servers. Of course, in their back end, they may have some backup servers in order to have it continue working without you knowing it. They may use raid-5 or disk mirroring. You won't notice if they bring down the server. That's why the server is always up.
