Today I had some trouble installing a wireless net at home. Have a Linksys setup (wireless G router w/speedbooster and same for pci adapter). When I called Linksys tech support, I was told to turn off my firewall and disable windows firewall. This did solve my connectivity problem but I'm wondering if I should leave it off and let the router firewall (is there one?) and WEP protect me. That is what I was told to do. Can I trust that? Paranoid in New Orleans.

Thanks for the Help,
EB

I believe they meant that the firewall should be turned off during installation. Once your network is up and running you can re-enable your firewall. Note: do not use a third party firewall and XP's built-in firewall at the same time. My advice is to leave XP's firewall turned off and use your third party app.

If you are using a physical hardware router device, there is probably no need to use a software firewall.
