Several months ago, I installed 3 or 4 other browsers to try them out. I think one or more of them has caused a problem with IE that won't go away. I have uninstalled a couple of them. IE keeps crashing on me. I've installed IE 5.0, IE 5.5 and now I just reverted back to IE 4.0 and the problems persist. Does anybody know if this problem can be cured in the Registry and if so, where do I look for the problem and what do I look for? It's very aggravating that I can't just uninstall IE and start over but it looks like Bill just won't allow that. I'm running Windows 95. I don't have a whole lot of Registry experience. Only a few tweaks.
Thanks,

mark,
You can expect problems when you install software like this.
Download and run RegClean:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/MSLFILES/REGCLN41.EXE
Then download IE5.5 and then go back to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download ALL critical Updates for your machine.

Thanks reghakr,
FWIW, I have run RegClean a couple of times and it didn't seem to cure the problem. I've also used Norton's WinDoctor, which I was told was a more thorough registry cleaner than MS RegClean.
I haven't downloaded all the critical updates yet, so I guess I'll give that a try.
Are you saying that even Netscape and IE are not compatible in the same machine?
The latest IE crash yielded the following error. Can you make heads or tails of it?
IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in

Well this might sound dumb to you but usually when it causes an Invalid Page fault in madual unknow if you lower you Hardware accelaration down 1 notch it will cure the problem and if that did the trick try installing the new drivers of your video card, it might be that the other browsers you tryed installed some sort viewing file or made a change to something that has to do with colors or screen size or anything that has to do with the video card, If that still doesn't do the trick, Let me know if you get a different error.
I hope it works:

Hi Venom,
I have had my Hardware accelaration set at the lowest setting for quite awhile and only recently bumped it up a notch. It didn't seem to affect it one way or the other.
I did just find out that I had a damaged "DirectAnimation Java Classes" in C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files, which LockerGnome said might cause problems in IE. I just reinstalled this today so I'll see if it makes a difference. It seems that a lot of people have damaged files in this folder and don't know about it.
MS knowledge base has an article on how to fix this for IE4.01 at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q183/4/11.asp
Thanks for your input. It probably wouldn't hurt to update my drivers too.

As an aside here, it seems that lately most of the crashes have been happening when I'm logging into or reading my messages in my Excite inbox. Maybe Excite is causing the problems???
