I have an older Toshiba laptop still going strong but when leaving it on overnight, the next day the time is wrong and one hour behind ! Does anyone know if the clock battery of the laptop needs to be changed ? When I reboot it, the clock again adjusts itself. Note: am always on the AC and not on the laptop battery. Thanks for any suggestion/help.

The slow clock problem you mention in an older system is the first warning sign that you most likely need to replace the CMOS battery.
On a desktop system it is usually easy to change (unless of course it is soldered to the MB). I'm not sure about a laptop, they can be pretty tricky to work with under the hood ... you may need to run it into a computer shop and have it replaced. The battery itself is only a couple of bucks so if you can do it you save the labor cost.

To save you money or trouble temporarily, get a time sync freeware and put it on startup, then your time will always be good. Of course, only if your laptop is connected to internet all the time...

Thanks for your help but unfortunately I am on a dial-up. Someone suggested to check the CMOS battery. I will do that first. Thanks again. Sal
