expiring password (W2K)

i got a message on bootup that my password would expire in 7 days. is that something new in a recent update?
i am running windows 2000 service pak 4

for password expiration goto control panel --> Administrative Tools --> Local Security Setting

and also

Right Click My Computer --> Manage --> Local Users and Groups --> Users --> Right Click a user
