Pretty well all firewalls will require an initial response for something called "Generic Process for Win32 Services". Normally, the firewall recommends to allow this service. The trouble is that, certainly under Win2K, this immediately causes an "svchost.exe" error to occur and, subsequently, a number of external viruses are let in. This has happened to me on more than one occasion.

Has anyone any insight into this and how it might be solved? Is the solution simply to disallow "Generic Process for Win32 Services"?

My current Norton firewall/AV subscription has expired and I'm planning to probably use Zone Alarm Free Version and AVG Free Version instead, from now on. But I suspect that Zone Alarm will include that service and will flag up a message relating to it, when first logging on.
