I'm still trying to get the hang of Registry Mechanic. So far so good. Two entries have me stumped. Add/remove programs and Shared DLL's. Are these safe to remove? Years ago I played around with a registry editor and had to do a complete format and reload, so I'm a bit sceptical to take everything for granted.

This is the first time I have ever posted on this site. However, your question caught my attention. I also experimented with some registry cleaners in the past; and I too had to reformat my hard drive as a direct result. However, I have been regularly using Registry Mechanic for over a year now. And with virtually no analysis of what the program finds, I have deleted all entries that RM lists after the scan ---> to date, I have had no program "glitches", system problems or lost information (that I desired to keep) as a result of this. My system runs fantastic. And with use on a daily basis, this is, in all likelihood, literally hundreds of eliminated entries. The newest version, Registry Mechanic 4.0, includes an option to automatically set a specific System Restore point before any post-scan entry removals. This is certainly a positive addition for the skeptics, such as you and me. Great program! Hope this helps!

Erich Grove is right on. I've been using Registry Mechanic for about two years and it is rock solid. I review what it recommends deleting and have never had to change a selection.

If, by some remote chance, Registry Mechanic goofed it has a "restore backups" option to save the day.

Thanks for the reply guys. I have been systematically working through and accepting for deletion each category, one at a time. Lots of restore points, but no problems. I'll try the last two tonight. They contain the most amount of info for deletion, so you can understand my caution. Gotta love that restore point feature. I have also notice an improvement in speed across the board. Excellent progy.
